Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong highly valued the cooperation between the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam (SPPV) and the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Laos (SPPL) at his recent reception for an SPPV delegation in Vientiane.

At the reception, which was part of the delegation’s working visit from October 15-19, Vietnamese Prosecutor General Nguyen Hoa Binh informed the Lao leader of the talks between the two agencies and the outcomes of the fourth conference between the People’s Procuracies of the countries’ border provinces held in Luang Prabang, Laos on October 16-17.

He said at the functions, the two sides agreed to boost cooperation in crime prevention and combat through rapid information sharing, experience exchanging and effectively responding to legal assistance requests in criminal matters, especially in the fight against transnational, organised drug and human trafficking crimes.

They will intensify joint efforts in training personnel, improving their respective country’s legal systems, and building and carrying out bilateral and multilateral ASEAN agreements on legal assistance in criminal matters, extradition and terrorism prevention.

They are set to work together to prepare for the establishment of the ASEAN Community in late 2015 by stepping up communications regarding the community, sharing information and proposing initiatives to improve the quality of their ASEAN participation, Binh added.

The Vietnamese side pledges to assists its Lao counterpart in hosting a meeting of the heads of the ASEAN procuracies in 2016.

For his part, PM Thongsing Thammavong lauded the two supreme procuracies’ active preparations for the formation of the ASEAN Community, adding that the community will face opportunities as well as challenges, including cross-border crime.

He asked the two sides to enhance information sharing and experience exchanges to broaden their coordination in suppressing crime.

He also thanked the Vietnamese Party, Government and people, including the SPPV, for their enormous support to his country in personnel training, which contributes to the consolidation of the nations’ special amity.-VNA
