Lao President Choummaly Sayasone arrived in Havana, Cuba on October 1, beginning his four-day official visit.

President Choummaly Sayasone will hold talks with President Raúl Castro, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

He will be awarded the Order of Jose Marti – Cuba’s noblest award granted to foreigners.

Laos and Cuba established diplomatic ties on November 1, 1974. Laos has always supported United Nations resolution calling for the US to lift embargo against Cuba.

The two countries have cooperated in healthcare and education. Cuba has sent 23 healthcare experts to Laos and granted scholarships to 116 students from the Southeast Asian country since 1972.-VNA
