A public meeting took place in Laos on September 1 to mark the 70th anniversary of Vietnam ’s August Revolution and National Day.

In a speech commencing the ceremony, Lao Prime Minister Thongsinh Thammavong recalled the historic Vietnamese victory on August 19, 1945 that led to the birth of an independent nation on September 2, 1945, and lauded the achievements reaped by their neighbouring country since then.

Expressing appreciation for Vietnam ’s assistance, the PM underscored the Lao Party, Government and people always stand side-by-side with their Vietnamese counterparts to cement the close traditional ties under any circumstance.

Agreeing with his host, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Manh Hung said the special relations with Laos have served as momentum for both nations to make progress in development and defence.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam Embassy in Buenos Aires , Argentina hosted a festival a day earlier to celebrate the two national events. The agency had previously been presented a communiqué passed by the Argentine lower house with content praising the role of the past revolution in Vietnam ’s defence and national construction.

The same day, the Vietnam Embassy in Bangkok , Thailand organised a ceremony in conjunction with the 70-year anniversary of the diplomatic sector and the 20-year anniversary of Vietnam ’s ASEAN membership. Thailand was the first nation in bloc to establish a strategic partnership and coordinate joint-cabinet sessions with Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba also hosted a reception saluting the country's national events on August 31.-VNA
