A number of high-profile state officials in Laos have been reshuffled in a major restructuring of the cabinet and other government bodies.
Former Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport Bounchanh Sinthavong was promoted to minister, replacing his predecessor Sommad Pholsena who will take up a new post at the Government Office, the official news agency KPL reported on March 24.
Director General of the Public Works and Transport Institute Vilaykham Phosalath was appointed as the new deputy minister.
Governor of Xayaboury province Lien Thikeo was appointed as the new Minister of Finance, while the ex-minister Phouphet Khamphoumvong took up a post at the Government Office.
Deputy Governor Phongsavanh Sitthivong was promoted to governor of Xayaboury province.
Representative of Laos to the United Nations Saleumxay Kommasith was announced as the new Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. The ministry has already reshuffled several of its department directors and office heads.
Additionally, there were also several personnel changes in the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and its Personnel Committee, as well as in the Ministries of Home Affairs and Finance.
The current changes have been made two years ahead of the regular five-yearly party and government reshuffle.-VNA
