Laos could earn over 200 million USD from buffalo, cattle export this year

Data from the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce shows that this country earned nearly 180 million USD in buffalo and cattle exports in the first nine months of 2021.
Last year, the export value topped 250 million USD. Vietnam was the largest buyer with imports worth 247 million USD.
The newspaper said the Lao Government is calling on farmers nationwide to promote livestock production for export, especially to China, in anticipation of the upcoming operation of the Laos - China railway, which is expected to facilitate transportation.
The Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry recently said this country’s government plans to produce at least 50,000 cattle annually.
Under an inter-governmental agreement, Laos has been granted a quota of 500,000 cattle for export to China.
Lao officials held that the sale of cattle to China could generate huge returns, not only to producers and farmers, but also to the nation as a whole, the Vientiane Times reported./.
