The Commission for Drug Control and Supervision in Laos’ capital city Vientiane destroyed more than 100 kilogrammes of various drugs on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26).

Of 108.94 kg of destroyed drugs, there were 37.4kg of amphetamines, 41.4kg of cannabis, 10.9kg of crystal meth and 3.3kg of heroin.

Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, mayor of Vientiane, said at the event that in the past years, the city coordinated with the United Nations and other sectors to curb drug trafficking activities as well as informing citizens on the dangers and severe outcomes caused by drugs.

The city authorities are making efforts to build drug-free hamlets and schools with 33 hamlets and 96 schools already making the commitment.-VNA
