Laos honours Vietnamese for post-war assistance

The Lao government honoured 63 Vietnamese collectives and 148 individuals at a ceremony in Hanoi on September 23 for their efforts to locate and repatriate remains of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts who died during the war in Laos.

On behalf of the Lao State and Government, Deputy Defence Minister and head of the Lao Government’s Special Working Commission, Lieut. Gen. Chansamon Channhalat presented the Friendship Order, the Friendship Medal and the Ministry of Defence’s certificates of merit to representatives of the recipients.

Addressing the event, Deputy Defence Minister Chansamon Channhalat thanked the Vietnamese Party, State, Government, army and people for offering Laos whole-hearted support in any conditions and at any time.

Every success in Laos ’ past fight for independence and current development is always attached to the solidarity and valuable support from the fraternal Vietnamese side, he noted.

He said the collectives and individuals’ excellent work in searching for and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts has helped tighten the special friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the Lao and Vietnamese State, armies and peoples.

Commander of the Military Zone 4, Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Huu Cuong expressed honour to receive the accolade, saying that this manifests the responsibility for implementing the Party and State’s policies on war heroes.-VNA
