The Culture and Information Ministry of Laos has announced a report, showing the strong development of its media sector over the past five years.
The country saw the creation of 20 more print media outlets, bringing the total number of newspapers and magazines to 90, including eight dailies.
At present, Laos has 43 radio stations, eight more than the figure in 2005. The broadcasting coverage has now reached 90 percent, a 10 percent increase over 2005. It is expected to cover the entire country in the next five years.
The country has 32 television stations, covering 72 percent of the nation’s area. The analogue broadcasting television system has been replaced by a digital format. The sector plans to transfer the entire system to digital by 2015 and raise its coverage to 80 percent of the country’s area./.
