A ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 30 to mark Laos’ 35 th National Day (Dec. 2) and the 90 th birthday of late President Kaysone Phomvihane on December 13.
The city’s Party and administrative leaders and the Laotian Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City Thetlakhone Douangsonthi attended the function.
The Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Le Hoang Quan, congratulated the Laotian people on their achievements in socio-economic development and other fields over the past 35 years.
He stated that the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries have been developed to new heights and those relations have been more effective, aiding development in both countries.
Quan stated that as Vietnam ’s economic locomotive, HCM City has contributed effectively to the Vietnamese-Laotian ties by boosting cooperation with various localities in Laos , especially its sister cities of Vientiane and Champassak.
He also expressed his respect for President Kaysone Phomvihane, who was one of founders of the Laotian People’s Revolutionary Party and had devoted his life to gaining Laos ’ freedom, ensuring its prosperity and boosting friendship with Vietnam .
Laotian General Consul Thetlakhone Douangsonthi expressed thanks for all the assistance from Vietnam over the years and said that the special friendship and cooperation between the two countries and peoples will constantly develop.
On the occasion, Laos presented the Labour Order to 11 organisations and individuals from Ho Chi Minh City for their contributions to boosting Laotian-Vietnamese ties./.
