Laos’ Pasason daily newspaper, the organ of the Lao People’sRevolutionary Party, on March 28 ran an editorial highlighting that 2012is a great year for cooperative relations between Laos and Vietnam asit marks Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year.
This year also marks the 35 th anniversary of the signing of theLaos-Vietnam Friendship and Cooperation Treaty (July 18) and the 50 thanniversary of the diplomatic ties between the two countries (Sept. 5),the article said.
There will be a wide range ofactivities to celebrate the two major events, such as seminars,cultural, artistic and sports exchanges and exhibitions, the articlesaid, adding that Laos has set up a national committee to overseethe implementation of the activities.
The articlestressed the need for Party organisations at all levels to establishsteering committees to monitor the celebrations and heighten awarenessof Party members, officials and the people about the traditionalrelations between the two countries.
It also calledon ministries, branches and localities to have responsibility and takeinitiative in celebrating Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year.
