Laos officially reopened its embassy in the UK and Northern Ireland on November 6, marking a new progress in bilateral friendship and cooperation.

Addressing distinguished guests in London, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith said the reopening of the embassy demonstrates the Lao government’s efforts to expand engagements with the UK and Northern Ireland, not only on political and diplomatic fronts but also the exchange between their people.

The UK’s exports to Laos climbed around 20 percent and 43,000 British nationals visited Laos last year. Education links are also thriving with Aston University establishing ties with the National University of Laos, said UK Minister of State Hugo Swire.

“Laos is most welcome here and I am sure our reinvigorated partnership means we have an exciting and productive future ahead,” Swire said before joining Sisoulith to cut a ribbon to reopen the embassy.-VNA
