Vientiane (VNA) – The Lao Government has decided to install body temperature scanners at the Wattay International Airport in Vientiane capital amidst the emergence of infectious diseases, including Zika virus, around the world.

The Lao Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport have signed an agreement on tightening disease control, under which staff at the airport will be given information on communicable diseases and prevention methods.

They will record information about passengers from countries affected by dangerous diseases while monitoring popular symptoms of infectious diseases like coughing, fever and breathing difficulties.

In 2015, Laos also set up body temperature scanners at international ports of entry, including Wattay airport, to prevent MERS-coV.-VNA
