Largest hydro-power plant progresses smoothly

Engineers on Aug. 20 successfully installed the rotor of the first turbine of the Son La hydro-electric power plant to enable the country’s largest plant of its kind to start running on Dec. 25 as scheduled.
Engineers on Aug. 20 successfully installed the rotor of the firstturbine of the Son La hydro-electric power plant to enable the country’slargest plant of its kind to start running on Dec. 25 as scheduled.

Witha diameter of 15.589 m, a height of 2.816 m, and weighing 1,000 tonnes,it is the heaviest rotor of hydro-electric power plants in Vietnam .

Accordingto the Son La plant management board, the rotor installation will befollowed by a test run of equipment of the plant’s auxiliary systems inSeptember and October.

The first turbine group will undergo a test run from November 15 to 30 before generating power on December 25, 2010 as planned.

The Son La power plant has six turbines designed to have a combined capacity of 2,400 MW.

Asmany as 17,996 households in Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinceshave relocated to give land to the Son La plant, which has a totalinvestment capital of over 42.47 trillion VND.

The power plan is expected to be completed by 2012./.

Vietnam's tourism sector faces labour shortage

A 2026 survey by Hoteljob.vn found that nearly 90% of tourism businesses planned to recruit. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, 89.7% of businesses were hiring, while 71.8% said recruitment was difficult or very difficult. The biggest shortages were among frontline workers, particularly in housekeeping, engineering, food service, front-office operations, and kitchens.
