A meeting to mark the 100 th anniversary of the birth of the late President of the State Council Vo Chi Cong, was held in Tam Ky City in the central province of Quang Nam on August 6.

Speaking at the event, President Truong Tan Sang recalled Cong’s revolutionary life and his contributions to national construction during the renewal process.

Vo Chi Cong was one of President Ho Chi Minh’s best students and devoted his life to the revolution and its goals to serve the nation and people, said Sang.

Born into a patriotic family in Quang Nam province in August 7, 1912, Cong led the local people to gain power in 1945. He was a loyal revolutionary and a talented leader who helped bring the war of resistance against the US to victory.

In every position, he contributed important initiatives to the revolutionary cause and created major breakthroughs in the agricultural sector and the nation’s economic development.

Vo Chi Cong passed away on September 8, 2011 at the age of 99.

On the morning of the same day, President Truong Tan Sang along with leaders and former leaders of the National Assembly, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front offered incense to Vo Chi Cong at his memorial in Tam Xuan 1 commune, Nui Thanh district./.
