Bangkok (VNA) – Khunying Sudarat, chairwoman of the election strategy committee of Thailand’s Pheu Thai party, is top on the list of the 10 people who are popular favourites to become the next prime minister of the country, according to the National Institute for Development Administration (NIDA) poll.

The party also comes top among voters for the next general election tentatively slated for early next year.

Sudarat was on top of the first 10 with 25.2 percent, followed by current Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha with 24.1 percent, Future Forward Party leader's Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit 14.5 percent, and Democrat Party leader's Abhisit Vejjajiva 11.7 percent. 

As for the party that the poll’s respondents want to win the highest vote to form the core of the next government, the Pheu Thai came in first with 31.8 percent, followed by the Palang Pracharath Party 19.9 percent, the Democrat Party 17 percent, and the Future Forward Party 15.6 percent. 

Thailand’s general election will take place on February 24, 2019 and the result will come out two months later. The new parliament will take office on May 8, 2019 and set the date to elect head of the Senate and the House of Representatives, as well as new prime minister. -VNA
