Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem secured a place to compete in the World Cup after drawing with local rival Oliver Barbosa in the last match at the Asian Continental Chess Championships in the Philippines on May 26.

With a total of 6.5 points, Grandmaster Liem ranked fourth in the event, while Chinese GM Li Chao took the title with seven points.

According to the Asian Chess Federation's regulation, the event's top five will get tickets to the upcoming world tournament in Norway in August.

Vietnam now has three representatives at the World Cup including Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and female chess player Nguyen Thi Thanh An.-VNA
