The market research firm Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS) Vietnam, has released a report on local consumption trends, saying that Vietnamese consumers are more and more interested in domestic products.

According to a survey made public on October 28 by TNS Vietnam, eight local brands made the top 10 list for fastest retail growth in the Vietnamese market in 2009. Last year, only four local brands were ranked in the list and in 2007, two.

The trademarks are Vfresh soya milk, Nam Ngu fish sauce, Vfresh orange juice, Trang Tien ice cream, Tuong An cooking oil, Fami soya milk, Dielac Anpha 1 milk powder, and Vinamilk fresh milk.

Noteworthy is that “Vfresh soya milk” and “Nam Ngu fish sauce” also top the list in terms of market share, with 25 percent and 22 percent, respectively, while the two foreign brands that made the list, Kotex sanitary napkins and Sting soft drinks, only have 15 percent and 10 percent respectively of their markets.

TNS Vietnam Managing Director Ralf Matthaes said that the survey shows local consumers are paying more attention to local brands and the government’s push to promote local products is paying dividends.

TNS is one of the world’s leading marketing research groups, supplying original research and analysis on retail and purchase, new product promotion, trademarks and media.

TNA started to operate in Vietnam in 1996 and it has set up 16 offices nationwide./.
