Quang Nam (VNA) –
The Ministry of Transport and the World Bank evaluated the Results-based Operation for Local Bridge Construction and Road Asset Management (LRAMP) project at a workshop on May 16.

Representatives from 51 beneficiary cities and provinces were present at the mid-term review workshop held in Hoi An city, central Quang Nam province.

Nguyen Van Huyen, General Director of Vietnam Road Administration, said LRAMP is an important transport project to support local road maintenance and bridge construction in rural areas.

The project’s road component is implemented by 14 localities with an investment of over 3.29 trillion VND (141.47 million USD) to upgrade 676 km of roads and regularly maintain over 61,100 km of roads. Several provinces such as Nam Dinh, Quang Nam and Binh Dinh are implementing the project well. Only Quang Tri has yet to begin the work.

Meanwhile, the bridge component has an investment of nearly 5.8 trillion VND (249.4 million USD) to build 2,174 bridges in remote areas of 50 cities and provinces.

According to Huyen, 1,037 bridges have been built and put into operation so far under the project. In 2019, 1,800 more bridges will be constructed and by 2020, all will be completed as scheduled.

Director of the project Tran Minh Phuong said the local bridge component has been one year ahead of schedule.

In Quang Nam, LRAMP has provided over 204 billion VND (8.76 million USD) sourced from the official development assistance (ODA) and 16 billion VND (over 687,600 USD) from the counterpart capital of localities to upgrade 38 km of roads, maintain over 14,000 km of roads, and build 34 local bridges, mainly in rural and mountainous regions, according to Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam People’s Committee Huynh Khanh Toan.-VNA
