Long An (VNA) - The Long An Department of Transport has said the province will invest more than 16.5 trillion VND (714.3 million USD) in building a road linking it with HCM City.

One of three key projects for the Mekong Delta province in 2021-2026, the road will have six lanes and a speed limit of 60 km/h.

It will span more than 35 km from Long An’s border with HCM City in Can Giuoc district’s Long Hau commune to its border with the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang in Chau Thanh district’s Hiep Thanh commune.

Three bridges will also be built on the road, crossing the Can Giuoc, Vam Co Dong, and Vam Co Tay Rivers, with construction totalling nearly 2.3 trillion VND from local and State budgets and other sources.

Long An boasts an advantageous location in the Southern Key Economic Region, serving as a bridge between HCM City and the Mekong Delta’s one city and 12 provinces.

Once operational, the road will form a straight line through Tien Giang, Long An, and HCM City, increasing transport connectivity between Mekong Delta localities and the southern city as well as reducing traffic congestion on National Highways No 1 and 50./.
