The Prime Minister has approved the investment report for the construction plan for Long Thanh International Airport, as requested by the Ministry of Transport and the State Appraisal Council.

The Prime Minister authorised the Minister of Transport to submit the report to the National Assembly in October 2014. Once it is approved by the NA, the Ministry of Transport will be responsible for drafting a feasibility report of the project and submit it to the Prime Minister.

The Long Thanh International Airport project aims to build a category 4F airport in line with the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), serving as an aviation hub in both the country and the Southeast Asian region.

The airport, covering a total area of 5,000ha, is expected to process 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo by 2025 in the first phase, with an investment estimated at more than 7.8 billion USD. Its capacity will be raised to 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo in the next five years.-VNA
