Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - Malaysia showed good performance in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2020 despite adverse impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the third series of the SDG Indicators Report released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia.

In his statement on December 3, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Economic Affairs Mustapa Mohamed said out of the 146 indicators, 49 (34 percent) improved, 34 (23 percent) did not change and 41 (28 percent) decreased. The remaining 22 (15 percent) were non-statistical indicators.

He said among the indicators that recorded an improvement were air and water quality, reduced criminal cases, Internet use, and increasing number of women in management positions.

Indicators that declined due to the pandemic include the annual growth rate of gross domestic product per capita, the number of passengers at airports, and the rates of absolute poverty and unemployment.

He stressed that Malaysia has made significant progress in mainstream SDG funding in national development planning./.
