Hanoi (VNA) – Malaysia's consumer price index (CPI) increased for the eighth consecutive month, by 2.2 percent in September compared to the same month last year, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

According to DOSM, the transport group continued to record a double-digit increase since March and edged up by 11 percent in September as compared to a year ago.

The food and non-alcoholic beverages also climbed 1.9 percent.

Meanwhile, furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance increased 1.7 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose 0.7 percent; recreation services and culture grew 0.6 percent.

For the third quarter, the CPI rose 2.2 percent from a year earlier.

Malaysia’s inflation is forecast to range between 2 – 3 percent this year./.
