Malaysia cuts time granting visas for foreign students
Hanoi (VNA) – The time for reviewing and granting visas for foreign
students in Malaysia will be reduced from 30 days to 14 days.
Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the issue was
decided in a senior meeting on receiving foreign students.
He said
Malaysia will send 10 more officials to its immigration department to increase staff
serving the granting of visas for foreign students.
The Malaysian
government also agreed to grant visas for students’ parents or guardians,
especially those from the Middle East, enabling them to take care of their
children in the country.
Foreign
students contribute around 1.12 billion USD each year to Malaysia’s economy.
Around 4,000 students are applying for visas to study in schools in Malaysia.-VNA
