Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said Malaysia detained 10 Vietnamese fishermen on charges of illegally fishing in waters off Sarawak state.

The Vietnamese fishermen, aged between 18 – 45, were seized on October 10 in the waters around 206 nautical miles off the Port of Tanjung to the northeast, according to Sarawak MMEA Director Shahref Steve MacQueen Abdullah.

The MMEA also seized one fishing vessel and 200 kilogrammes of fish.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia is verifying the case.

Last month, the MMEA also announced the seizure of two Vietnamese fishing vessels and 21 fishermen in Sarawak waters.-VNA
