Malaysia is hosting the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) of ASEAN and a series of SOMS events between ASEAN and its partners from June 7 to 11 in Kuching city of Sarawak state.

The Vietnamese delegation to the events is led by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung.

According to a press released by the Malaysian Foreign Ministry, the meeting began with the ASEAN SOM on June 8, followed by the ASEAN Plus Three Senior Officials Meeting (APT SOM) and the East Asia Summit Senior Officials Meeting (EAS SOM) on June 9 while the last meeting, the ASEAN Regional Forum Senior Officials Meeting (ARF SOM) will be held on June 10.

The meetings will discuss follow-up actions to the 26th ASEAN Summit which was held in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi last April.

The meetings are also part of preparations for the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM) and related Ministerial Conferences which will be held in August in Kuala Lumpur.

Besides senior officials from ASEAN member states, the meetings see the attendance of ASEAN Dialogue Partners (Australia, Canada, China, European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russia and the US).

Other members of the ARF namely Bangladesh, Democratic People's Republic of North Korea, Mongolia, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka and Timor-Leste will also be present at the meetings.

The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), established in 1967, consists of Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.-VNA
