Malaysian national rice corporation (BERNAS) has bought 200,000 tonnes of rice from Thailand through private deals, according to the Malaysian newspaper The Star on September 10.

The rice was harvested in July and August, and stored in private exporters’ warehouses.

According to a Thai government official, BERNAS representatives will arrive in Bangkok in the next few weeks to negotiate the purchase of another 200,000 tonnes of rice from the Thai government’ stocks via intergovernmental deals.

Malaysia is Thailand’s traditional rice importer, purchasing around 100,000-300,000 tonnes per year.-VNA
