Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on May 8 launched a new initiative in a bid to enhance the country’s fight against corruption.
Speaking with reporters, MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad said the Anti-Corruption Revolution Movement (Gerah) aims to create major and drastic changes in Malaysian people, ensuring they see corruption as their number one enemy.
The Gerah campaign will be held on the first Monday of each month with the participation of about 2,000 MACC officers, who are expected to meet with 20,000 people each month.
By forming close bonds with the public, the MACC hopes people will assist the agency in reporting cases of corruption and abuse of power and think of the officers as their family members, then able to say no to corruption, Dzulkifli stressed.
In February, the MACC asked for permission to access data sources on incomes and asset declaration of public servants, including cabinet members. Currently, the Malaysian law does not allow the MACC to investigate any individual without denouncing letters.-VNA
