The Malaysian Police busted one of the biggest international drug rings in the last five years, with the arrest of 17 of its members and the seizure of 370 kg of drugs with street value worth USD 14.3 million.

The Director of the Federal Police’s Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department, Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the Malaysian Police closely collaborated with anti-drug forces from Hong Kong (China) during the operation.

He said 11 raids were launched in Kepong, Cheras, Petaling Jaya (all near the capital Kuala Lumpur) and Perai in Penang state during the two-day operation held from May 12.

Mohd Mokhtar said the drug was smuggled in from China to cater for the local market.

Police also confiscated 129,000 RM (36,170 USD) in cash, 18 vehicles worth 2.1 million RM (590,000 USD) as well as jewellery and branded watches worth 40,000 RM (11,200 USD), he added.-VNA
