Malaysia on June 17 reported its first case of domestic transmission of the new flu virus H1N1 which has so far infected 23 people.

A 17-year-old girl is believed to have caught the virus from a friend who is now in the hospital after testing positive for the H1N1 virus on June 13, Health Ministry Director General Ismail Merican was quoted by Kyodo News as saying.

“She has no history of traveling to countries affected by the H1N1 virus,” he said in a statement.

Except for the 17-year-old, all previous cases in Malaysia including four new ones reported the same day are imported cases.

Out of the four new patients, three had just returned to Malaysia from Melbourne, Australia, the other one from Manila, the Philippines./.
