Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Appeal Court of Putrajaya city in Malaysia has sentenced to death nine Philippine militants involved in the incursion into Sabah state’s Lahad Datu district in 2013.

The Philippine militants, aged between 42-77, were accused of waging war against the Malaysian King, after taking part in the armed incursion into Tanduo village in Lahad Datu district from February 12 to April 10, 2013. Nine members of the Malaysian security force were killed in the assault.

The incident was a serious case which could spark a war between the two countries while affecting national sovereignty and the lives of Malaysians, said deputy public prosecutor Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud.

Last year, the militants were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Appeal Court of Sabah for the similar accusation.-VNA
