Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia on July 5 put its industrial vaccination centre at Terminal 1 of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport into operation in a bid to speed up COVID-19 vaccination for workers in the aviation sector.

According to Malaysian Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong, with the launching of the centre, the vaccination programme for aviation workers has started until September 24 with an aim to give vaccine shots to 22,243 workers in aviation and related sectors.

Wee said that the ministry will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and Ministry of Health to vaccinate workers in the transport sector, while working with the COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) to ensure that the national COVID-19 vaccination scheme for the sector will complete as soon as possible.

Apart from aviation, the Transport Ministry has also sped up vaccination for 19,259 railway and bus workers.

The ministry and CITF are also finalising a plan to give free vaccine shots to 355,064 taxi drivers and shippers./.
