Malaysia will issue five-year multiple entry visas (MEV) to investors, fund managers and business visitors from ASEAN countries, China and India 2015 onwards, Prime Minister Najib Razak announced.

Speaking at the Business Leaders Dialogue on August 26 in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian PM said the move will facilitate access for investors, businesses and specialists, thus boosting the country’s trade and investment.

In order to fully realise the potential of regional integration, the country must not only facilitate the flow of financial capital but also mobilise human capital, he said.

During the event, Prime Minister Najib also announced the programme MY ASEAN, which will give Malaysian youth the opportunity to absolve internships in ASEAN countries, and vice versa.

MY ASEAN and the new MEV regulations aim to increase regional trade and foster closer cultural integration, he said.

Malaysia is due to take on ASEAN Chairmanship in 2015 when the ASEAN Economic Community is expected to be launched.

One of the objectives of Malaysia’s chairmanship is to ensure opportunities throughout the region are extended to all levels of the community, added Najib.-VNA
