The Malaysian cabinet on September 4 approved in principal the direction, strategies and implementation methods of the Tenth Malaysia Plan (10MP) which will commence in 2011.

Minister in the Malaysian Prime Minister's Department, Nor Mohamed Yakop, said the 10MP would prioritise six areas including reducing crime, fighting corruption, providing access to affordable and quality education, raising the standard of living of the low-income group, upgrading of infrastructure in the rural and remote areas, and improving the public transport system.

Planning for the 10MP will begin one year earlier than previously to ensure the government receives sufficient and accurate feedback from all quarters.

Minister Nor Mohamed said the feedback would be presented to the Cabinet for better planning in the interest of the people./.
