Janakuasa Company, a leading investor in Malaysia in the energy sector, has granted a check of 100,000 USD to the southern province of Tra Vinh, where the company is scheduled to invest in a 1.5-billion-USD power plant.

The check was handed over to Vice Chairman of the Tra Vinh provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Phong on September 30 on the occasion of the opening the company’s representative office in Hanoi.

The money will be used to build a school for children whose families have been resettled due to the construction of the Duyen Hai 2 power plant, Janakuasa President and CEO Ti Chee Liang said.

He also said that Janakuasa had pledged to contribute a sum of one million USD annually for the construction of schools in the province, from the start of commercial operations of the plant till the end of the concession period. The plant is slated for completion in 2014 / 2015.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility, this contribution will go towards the construction of schools for children whose families have been resettled due to the construction of Duyen Hai 2. This ensures that the schooling needs of the children are met,” he said.

At a press conference on the same day, Janakuasa Honorary President Abdul Hamid Pawanteh said that he was very impressed with the development of Vietnam.

“This is one among the reasons why we decided to invest in Vietnam. The development of the country is un-reversible,” he said.

Meanwhile, President and CEO Ti Chee Liang said the working style of Vietnamese authorities and concerned agencies is also a reason for his company to be present in Vietnam.

They know well how to work with investors, and understand what they want to know, he said, adding that the Vietnamese officials always make work and projects their top priorities.

Abdul Hamid Pawanteh added that the enthusiastic and efficient working style of the Tra Vinh provincial authorities that he had seen was “a model of the working style of the Vietnamese authorities at all levels”.

“In comparison with a number of countries that we have been to, this is really a considerable difference”, he stressed./.
