Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak will embark on a two-day working visit to Tokyo from May 21 to attend the 20th Nikkei International Conference on the Future of Asia.

The Foreign Ministry said in its statement that Najib is scheduled to meet with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, and expects to reaffirm a bilateral commitment for more comprehensive cooperation, particularly within the economic and investment spheres.

Both sides shared the understanding that bilateral ties need to be nurtured and made more relevant in tandem with the domestic and international environment, it said.

On May 22, Najib will deliver an address at the conference themed “ Rising Asia-Messages for the next 20 years”.

According to the statement, economic ties remain a pillar of Malaysia and Japan’s relations, with two-way trade totalling 43.2 billion USD. Japan is now Malaysia’s third largest global trade partner and third largest export destination, after China and Singapore.-VNA
