Malaysian PM to receive Japan's noble order

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad will be awarded "The Grand
Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers" by the Emperor of Japan during
his three-day working visit to the “Land of the Rising Sun” starting from November 5.
Malaysian Ambassador to Japan Datuk Ahmad Izlan Idris said Emperor Akihito presents
this order to the Malaysian PM for his great contributions to strengthening
bilateral ties.
The award ceremony will be held at the Imperial
Palace on November 6.
“Traditionally, this award is given to foreign leaders like prime
ministers and statesmen within and outside Japan,” he said.
Mahathir is the third leader from Asia to be conferred the prestigious award after
late Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and former Indian Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh.-VNA
