An Giang (VNA) – The border guard force of An Giang province in the Mekong Delta reported on January 3 that it had worked with relevant authorities to arrest a man involved in trafficking 22 kg of drugs from Cambodia into Vietnam.

The trafficker, Trinh Van Thong, a resident of Cho Moi district, was caught red-handed on December 26, 2024, while driving a motorcycle carrying a styrofoam box containing 22 sealed plastic bags filled with a white crystalline substance, suspected to be methamphetamine.

Thong confessed that he had been hired to transport the drugs through the An Giang border area by a man for 200 million VND (nearly 7,860 USD).

According to forensic examination results on December 29 by the criminal investigation technique office of the provincial Department of Public Security, the seized items included over 20 kg of methamphetamine and 2 kg of ketamine.

The trafficker and the seized drugs have been handed over to the criminal investigation agency of the department for further investigation.

This case is part of the coordinated efforts of the local authorities, border guards and police in An Giang to crack down on crimes, particularly during the peak period starting in early December last year./.
