The remark was made by the Central Vietnam Red Cross Society at a meeting held in the northern port city of Hai Phong on Dec. 26-27 to review a project on mangrove forest plantation for calamity prevention for the 2006-2010 period.
The meeting drew the participation of eight coastal northern cities and provinces of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh.
Under the funding of the Japanese and Danish Red Cross Societies, the localities have grown nearly 1,200 ha of mangrove forests, 192 ha of casuarinas and eucalyptus.
The project has also helped raise capacity for local staff and volunteers.
Delegates at the meeting proposed foreign donors’ continued funding for the implementation of the project.
The Japanese counterpart planned to review the implementation of the project in January 2011 to consider additional funding./.
