A Vietnam-Japan exchange programme to plant mangroves in Dong Rui commune, Tien Yen district of the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh, is drawing the participation of hundreds of people, including 60 volunteers from Japan and other countries.

Up to three hectares of mangroves will be planted during the event from September 7 – 9, which is co-organised by the Quang Ninh Red Cross, the Action for Mangrove Reforestation organisation from Japan, and the Mangrove Ecosystem Research Centre of the Vietnam National University in Hanoi.

Since 2007, the Japanese organisation has coordinated with the Vietnamese centre to plant 665 hectares of mangroves in Quang Ninh.

The programme is part of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Vietnam – Japan’s diplomatic ties.-VNA
