Construction of the biggest ship the Vietnam Marine Police have had to date, the DN-2000 started on June 20.

The ship is being built by the Song Thu Ship Building Company, an arm of the Ministry of Defence. It is 90m long, 14m wide and can sail at 21 nautical miles an hour. It can also go to sea for 40 days without replenishment.

The multi-functional ship is designed to European standards and uses advanced technologies. The vessel will also be fitted with a heli-pad.

Lieutenant General Pham Duc Linh, Chief of Vietnam ’s Marine Police Department said the high capacity ship with its modern facilities will help the force significantly to carry out their operations.

As well as patrolling and protecting fishermen and businesses operating at sea, the ship can also help to rescue ships in Vietnamese and international waters, carry troops and provide logistical services for forces that are based at sea or on the islands.

The Song Thu Ship Building Company have previously built a 3,500 CV ship for the Vietnam Marine Police.-VNA
