The 2013 Mekong Delta Economic Cooperation Forum (MDEC Vinh Long 2013) will be a chance for the region to introduce its advantages and potential in order to attract more investment and create a development momentum for the region.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh, who is head of the Southwestern Region Steering Committee (SRSC), made the statement during a press conference to introduce the forum in Ho Chi Minh City on September 16.
He said he expects that through the forum, investors, ministries and sectors will find measures to continue promoting the economic development and social welfares in the region, contributing to bettering the living conditions for locals.
This year’s event is scheduled for November 21-24 in Vinh Long province under the theme “Mekong Delta towards the Green Economy”, according to Bui Ngoc Suong, deputy head of the SRSC.
As of the end of August this year, 13 Mekong Delta localities attracted 139 projects with total investment of 410 trillion VND and 1.9 billion USD.
The region’s social welfares programme also received more than 590 billion VND.-VNA
