Around 300 representatives from more than 140 global media agencies gathered in Beijing on October 9 to discuss challenges in the industry and ways of boosting cooperation at the first ever World Media Summit.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Chinese President Hu Jintao said that under the theme of “Cooperation, Action, Win-Win and Development,” the summit reflected concerns about the challenges facing the global media industry throughout its development process and the willingness of media outlets to work for peace and development in the world as well as for their own growth.

The summit was co-organised by China ’s Xinhua news agency and nine other world news agencies, including the UPI, Reuters, Kyodo News, BBC, ITA-TASS.

The Vietnamese delegation at the event was led by Nguyen Duc Loi, Vice Director General of the Vietnam News Agency.

The summit will last until October 10./.
