Medical experts have warned about the risk of the corona virus, even though there have been no reports of the virus in the country.
The virus could be transmitted from human to human via close contract, according to recent investigations.
The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) and the Ho Chi Minh City-based Pasteur Institute had not yet found any cases of the corona virus in the country, said Tran Dac Phu, Deputy Director of the Health Ministry’s Preventive Medicine Department.
The mortality rate of the corona virus was about 55 percent, said Phu.
Since last September, 55 cases of the corona virus were reported worldwide with 31 deaths in eight nations including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, Germany, France, Tunisia, and Italy. The two latest cases of corona virus were reported in Saudi Arabia in May this year.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) emphasised that the corona virus was growing at an alarming rate like the H5N1 and H7N9 viruses which were discovered in China last March.
The Ministry of Health (MoH) is supervising visitors from the affected areas to detect suspected cases, and instructed local health workers to take preventive measures.
Pham Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Head of the Infectious Diseases Department at Bach Mai Hospital , said that since 2003 when the virus first appeared, the MoH had issued detailed guidelines to all medical stations on the detection of symptoms such as coughs, fever and pneumonia.
As the number of patients and fatalities have increased around the world, the MoH has updated guidelines to medical stations and asked them to implement preventive measures.-VNA
