Around 200 domestic and overseas businesses are showcasing their products and services at an international pharmaceuticals exhibition which opened in Hanoi on May 12.

The 17 th Vietnam International Exhibition on Medical Equipment, Pharmaceutical Supplies, Treatments and Rehabilitation (Vietnam Medipharm 2010) boasts nearly 350 kiosks displaying pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and hospital services.

During the four-day event, several workshops on the state of Vietnam’s health sector and measures to improve the quality of medical check-ups and treatments as well as the production of drugs and medical equipment will also be held, along with a series of meetings with hi-tech medical companies.

According to Nguyen Trong Quy, General Director of the Vietnam Medical Products Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Vimedimex), this annual exhibition helps people better understand check-ups and treatments in Vietnam, so they can avoid going overseas for treatment which can be extremely expensive.

It will also create more opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to access the world’s most advanced pharmaceutical equipment and new technologies, he added.

Tran Duc Long, the Deputy Head of the Legal Department under the Health Ministry, said that Vietnam has seen strong developments in drug production and medical equipment manufacturing in recent years and the country’s capacity to produce drugs has met most of the domestic demand./.
