The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) on Feb. 22 launched a project to help the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam , the rice granary of the country, to use their land adaptable to climate change.

The four-year project with a total capital of 4 million Australian dollars will be carried out from this year in An Giang, Bac Lieu, Hau Giang and Can Tho provinces.

The finance will be provided through the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

Under the project, farmers will be provided with new techniques in selecting rice varieties, methods of cultivation suitable with changes in salt erosion and floods in order to minimise risks and earn higher incomes./.
