The Mekong Delta is improving access to education by pumping more money in the sector along with planning the building of more universities, colleges, secondary and vocational schools.

Provinces in the delta have increased budget for education from 13 percent a year to 18 percent and plan to set up 10-12 universities and 11 colleges with investment to be marshaled from society.

In the meantime, it is accelerating the promotion of Can Tho University as a key national institution and increasing investment to revamp facilities at a number of universities in the region.

Improving teaching quality and management in education is also on the agenda.

In order to speed up the development of education for the region, which is labelled as the country’s granary, the Government has increased education investment for it, with 22 percent rather than the previous 17 percent.-VNA
