Memorial ceremonies for President Quang in Malaysia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong

Hanoi (VNA) - Respect-paying and memorial ceremonies for President Tran Dai Quang were organised at the Vietnamese Embassies in Malaysia and Bangladesh, and the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong, China, on September 26.

The agencies also opened books of condolences and lowered the Vietnamese flag to half-mast.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia received more than 40 diplomatic delegations of foreign countries in Malaysia to pay tribute to President Quang.

The guests expressed their condolences at the passing of the Vietnamese President, while appreciating his contributions to Vietnam as well as to strengthening friendship between Vietnam and other countries.

Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Haji Marzuki Yahya sent his deep condolences to the Party, State and people of Vietnam over the passing of President Quang.

While praising President Quang for his contributions to enhancing Vietnam-Malaysia relations, Haji said the departure of the President is a huge loss for not only Vietnam but also ASEAN.

In his funeral oration in commemoration of President Quang, Vietnamese Ambassador to Bangladesh Tran Van Khoa expressed his deep emotions and grief over the sudden departure of the President, and his admiration for his diligent and devoted working spirit, as well as his work to lift Vietnam-Bangladesh relations.

Representatives from the Ministries of Social Welfare and Foreign Affairs;  the Workers Party and the Communist Party of Bangladesh; and diplomats from China, Japan, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Brunei,  the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Nepal, Maroc, Afghanistan, and the Vatican; those from the Bangladesh-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Vietnamese community in the country also paid tribute to President Quang at the embassy.

Previously, on September 23, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh sent their condolences to Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc over the passing of President Quang.

Bangladeshi leaders expressed their sadness and grief over the departure of the Vietnamese President, calling it a huge loss for the Communist Party of Vietnam and Vietnamese people.

At the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong (China), staff of the agency held a minute’s silence and wrote in a book of condolences for President Quang. 

Consul Tran Thanh Huan recalled the great contributions of President Quang to Vietnam’s revolutionary cause as well as to the national defence and construction.

In his note in the funeral book, Huan expressed deep condolences over the passing of the President, saying President Quang was an excellent leader and a loyal Party member.

Also on September 26, representatives from the Special Envoy's Office of China's Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong, the authorities of  the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, consulates general of ASEAN member nations and diplomatic agencies of foreign countries in Hong Kong paid tribute to President Quang.

Overseas Vietnamese people and students living and studying in Hong Kong also came and wrote in the funeral book to remember the President.-VNA
