Microsoft, a US software giant, has officially announced its joining of the Myanmar market by partnering with Myanmar Information Technology Pte Ltd., state media reported on June 9.

The American multi-national software corporation made the announcement at the World Economic Forum on East Asia hosted by Myanmar on June 5- 7.

The world's largest software maker expressed hopes that its business would help improve the economic performance of Myanmar, affirming that technology will play a vital part in future growth of this Southeast Asian country.

Recently, the Myanmar government has opened bidding for two nationwide telecommunication service packages. In addition, it has also offered preferential policies for domestic and international investors in this field.

In the 2015-2016 period, Myanmar plans to increase telecommunication coverage to 75- 80 percent to help people have greater access to telecommunication services at affordable prices.-VNA
