The world No 17 and tournament No 4 beat host rival Yu Hsien Lin 19-21, 21-4, 21-12 in the third round and Sukamata Evert of Indonesia 21-6, 21-16 in the second round match earlier.
In the first quarter-finals, he will play Nan Wei of Hong Kong, who is seeded No 10 here. On July 17 Wei came from behind to defeat No 5 Simon Santoro 18-21, 23-21, 22-20.
Earlier, Minh’s teammate and girlfriend Vu Thi Trang was eliminated by Taipei Ya Ching Hsu, No 8 seed, after a 21-10, 21-19 defeat.
Trang’s pair with Nguyen Thi Sen also failed in the women’s double event, losing easily 8-21, 14-21 to No 2 duo Jang Ye-na and Kim So-young of the Republic of Korea.
The Chinese Taipei Open is an official tournament of the Badminton World Federation which offers 200,000 USD to the winners.-VNA
