No 4 seed Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam was knocked out of the quarter-finals on July 18 at the Yonex Open Chinese Taipei badminton tournament.

The world No 17 lost 21-16, 20-22, 15-21 to Hong Kong's Nan Wei, who is seeded 10 in Taipei in the men's singles event.

Wei will next play No 2 seed Zhengming Wang of China who beat Kazumasa Sakai from Japan 15-21, 21-19, 21-10 to reach the semi-finals.

Minh became the sole Vietnamese representative to enter quarter-finals after his double win on July 17.

Earlier, Minh’s teammate and girlfriend Vu Thi Trang was eliminated by Taipei Ya Ching Hsu, No 8 seed, after a 21-10, 21-19 defeat.

The Chinese Taipei Open is an official tournament of the Badminton World Federation.

The finals will take place on July 20 with the winners sharing a 200,000 USD purse.-VNA
